South Dakota Unemployment Rate Declines



PIERRE, S.D. – The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports South Dakota’s preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November 2011 was 4.3 percent, down from the revised October 2011 rate of 4.5 percent.
 
“The number of employed in the seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 6,200 people over the year, continuing an over-the-year growth trend that started in July of 2010,” said State Labor and Regulation Secretary Pam Roberts.
 
From November 2010 to November 2011, preliminary estimates of South Dakota seasonally adjusted nonfarm workers show the level of workers increased by 2,500 for a total nonfarm level of 406,600.  Industries adding the most workers included professional and business services, manufacturing, and education and health services.
 
Nationally, the November 2011 unemployment rate was 8.6 percent, decreasing compared to the revised October rate of 9.0 percent. The national unemployment rate was 9.8 percent in November 2010; in South Dakota, it was 4.7 percent.
