One Person Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on Jan 4 Near Junction City



JUNCTION CITY, S.D. – One person died and another received serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the intersection of S.D. Highway 50 and 473rd Avenue east of Interstate 29 near Junction City.
 
The driver of a 1996 Chevrolet S10 was southbound on 473rd Avenue and failed to stop at the stop sign before crossing Highway 50. The Chevrolet collided with an eastbound 2005 Ford F450 truck. The driver of the Chevrolet was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the Ford suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.
 
Named are being withheld until relatives have been notified. No further information is available at this time.
 
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Union County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Elk Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service assisted.
